The co-accused in the cash-at-judge’s-door case, Nirmal Singh, was granted bail by the CBI court on Thursday. The court has asked him to furnish bail bonds of Rs 50,000.

Nirmal Singh was arrested on August 20, when he surrendered after his name featured in the scam.

The defence counsel pleaded that Nirmal Singh has no involvement in the case and he doesn’t know the persons who have been framed. The bail was granted on the grounds that it will take some time for the CBI to file a chargesheet in the case, so there is no reason for him to be behind bars.

The public prosecutor though argued that as the bail plea of prime accused Ravinder Singh is to be heard on October 18, Nirmal Singh’s release should be postponed.

Other accused in the case — former Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjeev Bansal, property dealer Rajiv Gupta and munshi Parkash Ram — have already been granted bail earlier this week.

The scandal came to light after a packet containing Rs15 lakh was delivered at the residence of High Court Judge Nirmaljit Kaur in Sector 11 on August 13.

Thereafter, both the property dealer — Rajiv Gupta and Nirmal Singh — presented the sale deed to police on August 14, 2008 and claimed that the money was to be used for sale deed of some property and was erroneously delivered at the judge’s residence. However, the CBI had claimed that the both the accused had given the sale deed to create a false alibi to cover up the offence of bribing a judge.
