Anyone who’s visited Ranthambore would have heard of Fateh Singh Rathore, known as the Tiger Man of India. He joined the Indian Forest Service in 1960 and worked as the Field Director of Ranthambore. He then started an NGO called Tiger Watch, concerned with the protection of tigers in Ranthambore. Over the last six years, the NGO has undertaken projects including training and clothing of forest guards in Ranthambore, undertaking community reforms for the Moghiya community who’d earlier earned their living by poaching and the drought relief project where Tiger Watch undertook relief measures like servicing old wells and tube wells.

This weekend they’re organising an event called Whiskers at the Maharashtra State Park,Sion. “Many of our donors are from Mumbai who want to get involved but don’t know how,” says Sachin Rai,joint honorary secretary of Tiger Watch. “We wanted them to look at the work we’ve done.” The events will include a photography exhibition, the screening of wildlife documentaries by filmmakers like Mike Pandey and conservation-oriented talks by various experts like Vidya Athreya, the foremost leopard ecologist of India.
