The CBI on Wednesday arrested Abhay Chudasama,Deputy Commissioner of Police,Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB),in connection with the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case. Chudasama,who was arrested from the DCB headquarters in Gaikwad Haveli area here,is the fourth IPS officer arrested in the case. The agency has named Chudasama as one of the main conspirators who took part in the abduction and murder of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi. He has also been accused of concertedly influencing important witnesses to conceal facts and give false statements to the CBI. CBI SP Amitabh Thakur who is investigating the case confirmed the arrest but refused to give more details. However,sources said that Chudasama had even supplied the weapon recovered from Sohrabuddin after the encounter. CBI is expected to produce Chudasama in a special CBI court here on Thursday. Shaikh was allegedly killed in a fake encounter on November 26,2005 near Vishala Circle on the Narol Highway in Ahmedabad. While the ATS and CID Crime had initially carried out the probe,the SC had handed it over to the CBI in January this year. The CBI officials also conducted a search at Amraiwadi police constable Ajaypal Yadavs house here. Yadav,currently absconding, has been accused of placing a motorbike near Sohrabuddins body after the encounter. A senior cop said ,Yadav was D G Vanzaras confidant. He also knew about how Chudasama and Rajkumar Pandian had gone to Hyderabad and had trapped Sohrabuddin into coming to Gujarat.
