CBI arrests Buta Singh’s son on bribery charges

Sarabjot Singh is reported to have cracked under CBI's pressure and admitted on Friday to his involvement in a bribery scam.

The CBI on Friday arrested former Union minister Buta Singh’s son Sarobjit for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 1 crore from a Nashik-based contractor for closing a case against him.

“Sarobjit Singh alias Sweety has been arrested along with his three accomplices for allegedly demanding bribe from a Nashik based contractor Ramrao Patil,” CBI Joint Director Rishiraj Singh said.

“We are also probing the hawala angle,” he said.

Sweety was picked up from Delhi yesterday and was brought to Mumbai where he was questioned the whole night by the Anti Corruption Bureau of the CBI after which he was placed under arrest.

Sweety along with the three other arrested accused would be produced before a special CBI court in south Mumbai later today.

During his questioning,Sweety was confronted with telephone calls that he allegedly made to Patil whose case is pending before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission headed by Buta Singh.

According to the complainant,Sweety had demanded a sum of Rs 1 crore from him to close the case registered against him under the SC/ST Act.

Patil had allegedly taken a loan of around Rs 10 crore from a cooperative society on behalf of over 100 persons from the Dalit community. He allegedly pocketed the money following which a case was registered against him.
