The chief investigator in the coal blocks allotment case was Friday arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh to settle a land dispute for a businessman. A second CBI officer and two others were arrested as well.
The CBIs internal intelligence unit swooped on its own men coal blocks allotments investigator,SP Vivek Dutt,and inspector Rajesh outside the agencys headquarters. The alleged bribe money was found on Dutt. The two officers will be produced before a special CBI judge on Saturday.
The alleged bribe is not connected with the coal case which is being monitored by the Supreme Court,sources said. However,the agency cannot change its investigating officer without the courts permission. CBI chief Ranjit Sinha told PTI that the agency would inform the Supreme Court about Fridays arrests.
We had information about such a dealing and we continued to maintain surveillance. After monitoring them for long,today they were arrested for taking the bribe, Sinha told PTI.
SP Vivek Dutt,who heads the CBIs cyber cell,allegedly gave a report favourable to the alleged bribe giver on a case that was referred to the CBI by the Delhi Police.
