  • When asked on what basis the Mumbai police claimed Sheikh’s arrest, an official said, “Interpol in India is a part of the CBI. We don’t know who told the Mumbai police about this”. The official also said there was a protocol that Interpol only contacted the CBI here.

On May 28, 2007, Interpol had issued a Red Corner notice against Raheel Abdul Rahman Sheikh for organising serial bombings in Mumbai that left 185 dead and hundreds injured. The Red Corner notice was issued by Interpol at the instance of the Mumbai police, who had taken up the case with the world police through the CBI.

The warrant is specific about his role in spreading terrorism in Mumbai.
