The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former official of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC),M Jayachandran,who was arrested for alleged financial bungling in holding Queen Batons Relay (QBR) in London in 2009.
Justice Hima Kohli granted bail to Jayachandran,a key aide of OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi,following CBIs failure to wind up the probe and file a chargesheet in the case within the stipulated 60-day period of the arrest.
Jayachandran was released on bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with two sureties of the same amount. The former OC Joint Director (Finance),Jayachandran was arrested by the CBI on November 21 last year for questionable payments to Indian-owned London-based private firm AM Car and Van Hire Limited during the QBR function in London.
During the arguments on his bail plea on January 17,his counsel had pleaded innocence before the court,saying he had no role which can be termed as a criminal act in the alleged financial irregularities in the QBR.
Earlier,CWG officials Sanjay Mahendroo and T S Darbari,arrested a few days before Jayachandran,were granted bail on the same ground.
