The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a chargesheet against four persons for cheating Union Bank of India. The four persons,including Pune-based builder Pradeep Runwal,had mortgaged a plot in Mulshi worth Rs 1.97 crore for getting a loan of Rs 10 crore.
The CBI filed the chargesheet through their public prosecutor Ayub Pathan. The other accused in the case are Suvarna Runwal,Amrutlal Runwal and Hemlaat Runwal. As per the information given by Pathan,in 2004 Runwals had applied for a loan of Rs 10 crore from the bank for building a residential township in Chennai. When the bank had asked for a mortgage,Runwals had shown a land in Shere village near Paud and stated that the cost was about Rs 10 crore. But inspection by bank officials revealed that cost of the land was Rs 1.97 crore.
He added that the builder had entered into a contract of development on the same land with another person in 2001 and kept the bank in dark about this. Further,36 more flats and five row houses were also shown for mortgage and were sold without the permission of the bank.
