A two-member CBI team which arrived in Sirsa on Wednesday conducted raids and examined the revenue records of the properties belonging to former Haryana chief minister Om Parkash Chautala and his family.
Sources revealed that the team led by ASP Jagroop of CBI’s Special Crime Bureau (SCB), first obtained the revenue records pertaining to properties believed to be owned by the Chautala family before recording the statements of revenue officials (patwaris) of Sirsa, Khairpur, Vaidwala, Bajekaan and Bhamboor.
The CBI team would also be examining the revenue records of properties in Chautala, Teja Khera, Lambi and Baru Khera in the next couple of days. Chautala family has a plush farm house at Teja Khera village.
Even as officials remained tight-lipped, the CBI raids on Wednesday are believed to be associated with the case against Chautala, his family members and some other persons for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to their sources of income between July 1999 and March 2005. CBI had registered the case on April 3, 2006 after the Centre issued a notification in response to a request made by the Haryana Government. It was alleged that Chautala and hs family amassed wealth worth Rs 1,400 crore.
Following the registration of case, the CBI, in May 2006, had raided a number of places in six states and union territories, where Chautala and his family members, among others named in the case, were believed to own properties.
“The CBI team had sought from us the revenue records of the properties of Chautala family in some places in the region. The record was made available to them,” Sirsa SDM H C Bhatia told The Indian Express. He confirmed that team would be examining the records of properties of the family at other places as well.
