  • The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials visited the Estate Office and Municipal Corporation on Monday for investigating the alleged government land grabbing case and seized documents pertaining to 21 properties.

Confirming the seizure, DIG Mahesh Aggarwal said they are investigating the matter and further course of action would be decided upon only after going through the records.

The 21 properties, in rehabilitation colonies, were shown as vacant in official records but few officials, in connivance with two real-estate agents, allegedly handed over the properties to people with fake documents.

Two days ago, the CBI booked four persons including two employees of the Municipal Corporation for the alleged scam. “The officials have sold the plots to people not covered under the rehabilitation schemes in the colonies. They charged a hefty amount from the people claiming they had got the plots allotted in their name. Many of the victims have even constructed houses on the plots,” Aggarwal said.

Since the MC charges a monthly rent from the dwellers, the corporation kept issuing rent slips against these plots to illegal occupants. “The plots are not allotted to anybody then how can the officials issue rent slips. This is a clear pointer towards the involvement of MC officials in the scam to which we are investigating,” the official added.
