The CBI on Thursday took over the cash-for-judge scam allegedly involving some lawyers and judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and several city-based property dealers. On Wednesday, the CBI had conveyed to the Chandigarh Administration that it was ready to investigate the high-profile case. “We have taken over the case as it is an inter-state matter with multi-dimensional implications. The FIR has been lodged under the sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy,” said an official. Officials said they would first take custody of the arrested persons and study the Chandigarh Police investigations. The Supreme Court has also set up a separate panel to conduct an internal investigation into the case.
