  • Two days after taking over investigations of the rape and murder of Nilofar and her sister-in-law Asiya Jan, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team visited Shopian on Saturday amid tight security.

The CBI team met the family of the two women and leaders of Majlis Mashawaarat — the organisation which is spearheading protests to seek justice for Nilofar and Asiya who were allegedly raped and murdered on May 29. The team, led by Deputy Inspector General Satish Golcha, visited the spots where the bodies of the two women were found.

Sources said Shakeel Ahmed Ahanger, Nilofar’s husband, narrated to the CBI team the sequence of events after his wife and sister went missing. A team of Majlis Mashawaarat also held a detailed discussion with the CBI team.

Majlis Mashawaarat spokesman Mohammad Shafi Khan said, “We will cooperate with the investigations as we want the killers to be exposed.”
