CBI to send letter rogatory to Swiss firm

Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) gears up to file the first chargesheet against Congress MP and sacked OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi in Timing Scoring and Result (TSR) case,the agency said that it will send letter rogatory (LR) to Switzerland in connection with the involvement of Swiss Timing Omega in the scam. The Swiss firm had accused the CBI of not seeking its clarification into the entire matter and naming the firm of international repute in a criminal case.

Sources in the agency said that a LR will be sent to Switzerland in connection with the scam once a chargesheet is filed against Kalmadi and other OC officials in few days time. We have recorded the statements of the witnesses and once the chargesheet is filed in the scam. we would like to examine the role of Swiss firm officials. There are statements from witnesses and others where allegations against the firm which was given the contract have been levelled. We would like to examine them on the grounds whether there were any demand for bribe from the OC officials, said a CBI official.

The agency said this will also mean that a supplementary chargesheet will be filed into the case,once the replies of the LRs are received,and a CBI team will visit Switzerland to assist in probe. A CBI team that visited Switzerland in connection with the investigations into another case tried to contact the officials of the Swiss Timings Omega.
