“Students good at sports stop playing the moment they enter Class IX. They will, however, now be able to nurture and polish their flair,” says Dr Rakesh Sachdeva, principal,DAV Model School,Sector 15.

D S Bedi, director,Shivalik Public School, voices similar sentiments. “Students have become prone to examination-phobia so much so that they channelise all their energy in scoring 90 per cent marks and above. The exams being made optional will let students nurture their distinct talents.”

There is unanimity of view among teachers that students will now focus on in-depth understanding of topics.

“Teachers can now complete the syllabus at a pace that will help the average students comprehend the topics better,” says Sanjay Sardana, director,Manav Mangal Smart School,Mohali.
