While the first phase of Census 2011 began in various parts of the country on Friday,the exercise will take off in Uttar Pradesh on May 16.
Prior to field survey,the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO) in Uttar Pradesh started training master trainers on Friday.
In the next 15 days,58 master trainer facilitators will train 9,053 master trainers. These master trainers will later on train 3.52 lakh enumerators and 58,718 supervisors for Census work in the states 71 districts. In UP,the first phase of Census will last for 46 days. A total of 4.11 lakh Census personnel are going to be engaged in this as UP is the largest state population-wise, said Pradeep Kumar,Joint Director of Census Operations,DCO (Uttar Pradesh).
All arrangements have been made to ensure smooth conduct of the Census and house-to-house verification,he added.
In the first phase,data would be collected for housing Census and house listing. In the housing Census,details of assets and services like usage of vehicles,radio,television,telephone,computers,electricity,etc would be collected. The area of each house and its location would be taken for house listing.
While in the first phase,the number of individuals would be estimated,details like name,age,educational qualification,religion,profession,date of birth,birth place,property ownership,etc would be collected in the second phase of the census,beginning February 2011.
For the first time,information on usage of Internet connection and banking services will be collected in the national Census, said an official.
This year,along with house registration,data will be collected for the National Population Register. Moreover,socio-economic conditions of each family would also be recorded.
The DCO is expecting an increase of 25 per cent in the population of Uttar Pradesh in the last one decade.
According to Census 2001,the population of the state was 16.61 crore. Officials expect this will go up to 20 crore by 2011,when the Census will be completed.
To conduct the Census in towns,the district magistrate will act as the principal census officer,municipal commissioner will perform as additional principal Census officer,additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) would be the district census officer and Basic Shiksha Adhikari would act as additional district census officer.
District economics and statistics officer will be deputy district census officer.
