The Registrar General and Census Commissioners office has opened accounts on Facebook and Twitter, aiming to use social networking sites to connect with the people and encourage them to participate in the second phase of Census 2011.
More than 700 people have visited the Facebook page of Census 2011 in less than two weeks, while some 14 persons have become followers on Twitter in the past few days.
The idea of opening accounts on social networking sites was to get connected with the maximum number of people and motivate them to give correct information to enumerators and participate in the exercise, said Neena Sharma,Director of Census Operations in UP.
People from across the country are contacting us through these networking sites and asking questions on the current and past census. They are coming out in support of the enumerators, said an official in the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. The links to the Facebook and Twitter accounts are provided on the website of the Registrar General and Census Commissionercensusindia.gov.in.
