Central damage assessment team tours West Sikkim

Team mainly assessed the damage caused to houses,roads,water and power supply.

A nine-member central damage assessment team has visited the earthquake-affected areas in West Sikkim district,official sources said today.

An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude had rocked Sikkim and several areas of northeast and neighbouring Nepal on September 18,killing more than 100 people.

The central damage assessment team,headed by Joint Secretary,Ministry of Home Affairs,Shambhu Singh,visited several areas of the district in two groups yesterday,the sources said.

The team mainly assessed the damage caused to houses,roads,water and power supply structures besides agriculture and livestock.

The team also visited relief camps and interacted with people lodged therein,sources said.
