Central schools top CBSE results in city, leave private schools behind

Central government schools like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) and Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) in Delhi have fared better than private schools in this year's CBSE Class XII examination.

While KVs recorded a pass percentage of 95.53 per cent, JNVs had a pass percentage of 91.20.

But the performance is not so good when compared to last year. The pass percentage at JNVs in Delhi has gone down by approximately 5 percentage points while that of KVs has gone down by 0.10 per cent.

Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely on Monday said schools under the Delhi government have performed the best "among government-run schools across the country" .

"This year, 87.72 per cent students studying in government schools in the city passed the exam compared to 87.54 per cent last year," Singh told mediapersons on Monday.

"Performance of government schools of Delhi is once again the best in the country. Pass percentage of Pratibha schools is 99.07 per cent. As many as 78 government schools reported 100 per cent result as compared to 70 schools last year," he said.

Country-wide, the pass percentage of JNVs has gone down from 96.87 per cent in 2011 to 95.96 per cent this year. The KVs, however, improved their performance nation-wide and have registered 94.13 per cent, up from 2011's 93.42 per cent.

Both government and independent schools, however, have recorded lower pass percentages than last year. Out of the 1,21,250 students from government schools who appeared in All India Senior School Certificate (Class XII) board exam conducted by the CBSE, 87.70 per cent have passed. There is a marginal increase in the pass percentage from last year.

Independent schools in Delhi have presented a better result with a pass percentage of 90, an improvement of 0.29 per cent over last year's result.

Private candidates in Delhi have a pass percentage of 36.59, which is an improvement of approximately 4 percentage points from last year.
