Central Zone,Lucknow athletes won 72 golds,46 silvers and 41 bronze medals to collect 590 points and bag the top honours in the Uttar Pradesh State Forest Sports Meet which came to a close at Guru Govind Singh Sports College,Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Van Nigam with 20 golds,22 silvers and 11 bronze collected 194 points to occupy the second spot while Eastern Zone,Gorakhpur which collected 129 points with 8 golds,20 silvers and 12 bronze had to rest content at the third spot.
Sachin Kumar of Western Zone,Meerut was declared Best athlete in the mens section while in the womens section,Kirti Srivastrav of Central Zone,Lucknow was declared Best athlete. Dhurandar Prasad of Central Zone,Lucknow was declared Best Strong Man,Bharat Lal Yadav of Central Zone,Lucknow was adjudged Best male veteran athlete while Rekha Gupta of Central Zone,Lucknow was adjudged Best female veteran athlete. Ramshankar Mishra of Eastern Zone,Gorakhpur was declared Best mens senior veteran athlete.
In chess,Avni Kumar of Central Zone,Lucknow and Daya Pandey of UP Van Nigam occupied the top spot in the mens and womens section,respectively.
In tug-of war,Eastern Zone Gorakhpur; in football,Central Zone,Lucknow; in volleyball UP Van Nigam; in kabaddi Eastern Zone,Gorakhpur while in 4×100 m race (mens open and veterans category),Central Zone,Lucknow bagged the top honours.
Imran shines
A devastating four wicket haul by M Imran (4 for 14 in six overs) and an unbeaten 43-run knock by M Sameer helped Soni Cricket Club in defeating Lucknow Cricket Foundation (LCF) by eight wickets in a league match of the XIth Babu Banarsi Das C division cricket league,at LDA Stadium,Lucknow on Wednesday. Batting first,LCF which was short of one player,scored 113 runs losing nine wickets in 23 overs in the 35 overs-a-side match. In reply,Soni Cricket Club was able to attain the set mark in 16 overs with eight wickets to spare.
