Centre approves 13 crore e-governance proposal

The central government has cleared a Rs 13 crore proposal of the UT administration that will enable the government here to offer services like payment of water and electricity bills through online mode.

Officials in the IT department of the administration said that the detailed project report (DPR) of the Administration's e-governance plan was cleared recently and its implementation "will help in better delivery of administrative services". They added that the DPR was cleared by the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) and communication here recently.

Following the clearance of the DPR, officials said that they will set up the hardware infrastructure in the different departments of the government and also launch a portal that will be used by the people to subscribe to the government services.

Director IT, UT administration, Tanvi Garg, said, "The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MICT) has cleared the DPR recently. We need to create the necessary infrastructure to launch the e-governance program."

Officials said that government will spend nearly Rs 6 crore on the setting up of a portal and another Rs 7 crore on setting up of hardware infrastructure in the different government departments that will be listed to roll out the service. For the portal, officials said that it will have to be developed as per government specifications and so that it is not hacked by people. "The portal should satisfy the government's testing and quality control norms," said an official.

Officials further add that to enable payment services that can be availed by the people, they will sign up a third party agreement with a private company to ensure the transaction of money through the different banks.

"In order to enable the services that involve the payment of money we will have to take the services of different banks. For this we will sign up with a third party. For enabling the services we will have to set up an e-payment gateway as well," said an official.
