
The Centre on Wednesday dispatched 1000 personnel of paramilitary forces to the violence-hit Kandhamal district in Orissa in the wake of fresh communal clashes there.
Ten CRPF companies have been rushed to the district, taking the total to 53 companies out of which four are Rapid Action Force (RAF), a CRPF official said.
Police had arrested 35 people and re-imposed day curfew in sensitive areas of the district in the wake of fresh violence there.
Areas like Phulbani, Raikia, G Udaygiri, Tikabali, Tumudibandha, Nuagaon, Gochhapada, Phiringia and Baliguda, have earlier been put under day curfew.
The Centre earlier said that it was not satisfied with the response of the Orissa government to the notices issued over the continuous attacks on Christians in the state and said, ‘much more needs to do done to prevent further attacks on the minorities.’
“We are not yet satisfied with the response of the state government. Much more needs to be done to quell the communal tensions,” newly appointed Director General of BSF M L Kumawat who still holds the post of Special Secretary (Internal Security) said.
900 additional paramilitary personnel for Delhi
Close on the heels of bomb explosions in the national capital, the Centre made available 900 personnel of paramilitary forces to Delhi police for deployment during the festival season.
Six companies of CRPF and three companies of SSB were made available for the Delhi police to beef up security during the festival season, Home Ministry officials said.
A company of paramilitary forces comprises of 100 personnel.
The forces will be deployed for guarding different markets, religious places, venue of festivals and other sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incident.
Already 10 companies of the CRPF have been deployed in the capital.
On September 13, a series of explosions hit the national capital, mostly in market places, claiming 25 lives. On September 27, a bomb exploded at a market in South Delhi claiming one life and injuring more than 20 others.
Centre rushes 400 CRPF personnel to Maharashtra
The Centre rushed about 400 CRPF personnel to Maharashtra to be deployed in the communally sensitive Malegaon where tensions have spiralled following the bomb blast on Monday.
While two companies of Central Paramilitary Force (CRPF) have already reached the state, two more would reach there soon, sources said.
A company of paramilitary force comprises of about 100 personnel.
Four persons were killed and 79, including 30 policemen and home guards, were injured in Monday night’s blast in the power-loom town.
