Centre gives green signal,money to construct rail overbridge at Lalbag

For the first time,VMC officials will hold a meeting with the Western Railway officials,seeking permission to build the entire structure on their own. The other two important ROBs at Vadsar crossing and Jetalpur are held up because the Western Railway authorities have taken up the responsibility to build the portion,which is above the railway tracks.

“We will soon float the tenders to initiate the project. This time,we are going to approach the railway authorities to allow us to handle the complete project instead of letting the railway build the portion of the bridge above the railway tracks. We are sure they would agree to it because the hassles are less on this line as the train passes through it only three to four times in a day,” said Municipal Commissioner Manoj Das.

The new ROB would be the first one in the city with multi-entry and exit points and four-lane. “Vehicles would enter from the Kashivishwanath Temple road and the Vishwamitri Bridge. The two openings on the Lalbaug side would be at the Pratapnagar police headquarter and the other would go towards Manjalpur. The length from Kashivishwanath temple till Manjalpur Naka will be 782 meters and the width would be 14.9 meters,’ said P M Patel,JNNURM projects executive engineer.

Patel added that the bridge going towards Pratapnagar will be 380 metres long and 8.4 meters in width because the traffic movement is less.

“The length of the bridge towards Vishwamitri Bridge will be 317 metres and the width would be 14.9 meters. Also,for the pedestrians,there will be a foot overbridge in the middle of the bridge,” he said.
