The Lakshmi Talaab is one of the oldest lakes in the region, situated on the outskirts of the city. According to official information, the lake is estimated to be about 400-year-old and is a part of the historical legacy of the region.

It is said that Rani Lakshmibai, the queen of Jhansi, used to take bath in this lake. Spread over 80-acres of land, the lake today has been reduced to a dumpyard, with filthy water. The project will not just see the restoration of the lake, but also, development of the surrounding area.

Giving details,District Magistrate of Jhansi Raj Shekhar said that the lake is a significant chapter of the glorious history of Jhansi. “When we got to know about the NLCP,we approached the Centre for restoring this lake. And they gave nod on the condition that the state will have to share 30 per cent of the cost. The state government has also agreed to the idea.”

A large statue of Rani Lakshmibai will also be installed in the middle of the lake to give it an identity.
