  • Aamir Khan reinvented himself with Ghajini, sending out a clear message to all filmmakers that he isn’t merely a chocolate boy and is open to experiment with the genre. And one of the first to take the hint is Anees Bazmee. The filmmaker, known for his action comedies, is writing a script for Khan under Boney Kapoor’s banner.

“I’m writing a crime comedy where Aamir is the central character but like most of my movies, it has an ensemble cast with four women in lead,” says the filmmaker whose last film, Singh is Kinng, was one of 2008’s biggest hits.

Bazmee says that he met Khan well before Ghajini was made and narrated to him the story and the initial draft of the script, which Khan liked and has agreed to work on. “But you know Aamir works only once he has a copy of the bound script with him and I, on the other hand, being a writer as well as a director, keep improvising till the last shot,” he laughs as he explains why Mr Perfectionist hasn’t signed the film yet.

“My current project is Anil Kapoor Productions’ No Problem, which goes on the floors on July 10 but I am going to take time out in between this all of this to finish the script so that we can get the project underway,” adds Bazmee.

Given that Khan’s angry young man avatar in Ghajini has left the audiences asking for more and Bazmee has always been popular for his movies like Aankhen, Welcome and No Entry with mass appeal - the two hence may make a great team, especially since neither of them are known for allowing strong women characters in their movies.
