KOLKATA: An 18-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped at Karaibari near Siliguri on Tuesday. The girl's brother spotted her lying unconscious beside a drain at Kalabari, a few kilometres from their residence. Police said the girl left home on Monday evening, telling her relatives she was going to meet a friend. She did not return. Her brother found her the next day and took her to North Bengal Medical College. No formal complaint of rape has been lodged, said police. The girl has undergone a medical test.
Metro 'molester' held, gets bail
Kolkata: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly molested on Metro on Tuesday while she was boarding the train from Rabindra Sadan. The accused, 32-year-old Aniruddha Basu has been arrested. "A case has been registered. He was produced in the court today and granted bail," said police.
10 infant deaths in Malda hospital
Kolkata: Ten infants have died at Malda Medical College and Hospital in the past 48 hours. The primary reasons for the deaths are stated to be septicaemia, birth asphyxia and low birth weight. "All the babies who died in the hospital recently were extremely underweight and undernourished. Their weight was much less than 2.5 kg. Some of them were just 900 grams or 1 kg," said Uchchal Kumar Bhadra, principal of the hospital.
Mishra meets ailing rebel TMC MLA
KOLKATA: CPM leader and
Leader of Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra on Wednesday met ailing rebel Trinamool MLA from Singur Rabindranath Bhattacharya at a private hospital in Kolkata. Bhattacharya, who quit from Mamata Banerjee's cabinet, was admitted at a private hospital on Sunday with cardiac problems. Mishra also met minister Firhad Hakim in the hospital after he came to know that the minister was admitted with abdomen pain.
Interestingly, Housing Minister Arup Biswas was denied a chance to meet Bhattacharya.
