Rarely do two overs change the course of a match,even in the shortest version of the game,like the ones Chennai Super Kingss opening bowler Sudeep Tyagi hurled down against the Deccan Chargers on Sunday. After getting smashed for 18 runs in the second over of the day,Mahendra Singh Dhoni kept him out of the attack for the rest of the innings,but strangely,the skipper brought him back for the final over. Tyagi conceded 21 runs in the first five balls before being taken off the attack for bowling his second beamer of the day. With figures of 0/39 from 1.5 overs,Tyagi had ensured that the momentum was firmly nailed into the visitors dugout. Another 151 runs were made in the remaining 18 overs,mainly due to the third wicket partnership of 95 runs between Herschelle Gibbs (45) and Andrew Symonds (50),as Deccan finished with 190/4 in 20 overs and eventually a 31-run victory. Gibbs and Symonds were slow to get off the blocks,but once they got going,there was little the home side could do to stop them. After playing the sheet anchor role Gibbs was run-out while Symonds too followed in similar fashion,but not before smashing three fours and powering as many sixes into the stands. All eyes at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after the break were on Matthew Haydens willow. A lot had been said and written about the new brand of bat (with an abnormally long handle and a stockier base for big hits) that had made its way into Haydens kit,but the fans were left dejected when the former Australian opener walked out into the middle with the conventional version. While Hayden looked in no hurry to reveal his new weapon,he looked in a terrible rush to hunt the target down. He smashed two sixes in his innings of 17,before holing out at square-leg off Chaminda Vaas. The home sides chances vanished as Vaas successfully ripped through the top-order,claiming the Murali Vijay (3),Suresh Raina (6) and Hayden before the fifth over. Dhoni (42),Kemp (22) and Albie Morkel (42 not out) did show some resistance but it was to be Symondss day with the ball too. Dhonis stumps were cleaned up by the Australian all-rounder just when he was beginning to look dangerous,while Morkel was left without any partners after Symonds had Muttiah Muralitharan trapped lbw in the penultimate over.
