Despite meager facilities, Chandigarh boxers shone in the recently concluded 56th Senior National Boxing Championship held at Hyderabad from October 26 to November 1. Paramjit shone with a silver medal in the 48 kg category, while Suresh Kumar and Manoj Kumar claimed a bronze medal each in the 75 kg and +91 kg weight category, respectively. Chandigarh had fielded 11-member team in the championship. Meanwhile, Chandigarh qualified for the next Federation Cup. Besides this, Dr C K Jerath, secretary, CABA, was unanimously selected chairman jury of the championship. Balkar Singh and Bhagwant Singh acted as R/J, and Om Parkash was the coach of the Chandigarh team.
