Chargesheet: Laila’s biz deals with Dubai Shaikh provoked Tak

It was Laila Khan and her relatives' dealings with one 'Shaikh' in Dubai that angered Pervez Iqbal Tak and provoked him to murder the starlet and five of her family members in February 2011, claims the 924-page chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday.

The chargesheet claims Tak's close associate Shaikh had befriended Khan and her sisters. The Shaikh from Dubai allegedly engaged in a business with Khan and her sister, battering Tak's ego. The chargesheet, however, does not elaborate on Shaikh's identity and the role he played in the "business" deals.

According to the chargesheet, Shaikh had given a hefty sum to Khan, which she had allegedly kept away from Tak.

This allegedly led him to eliminate Laila's mother Shelina Patel (59), her elder daughter Azmina Patel (32), second daughter Laila (30), twin children Zara and Imran (25), and another relative Reshma Sagir Khan alias Talli (19).

Tak, who has been in custody since July 8 this year, allegedly led the police to the spot at an Igatpuri farmhouse where he had allegedly killed the six and buried their bodies. Attributing the motive as money, the police gathered evidence from the spot, including bank accounts held by the family. Six bank passbooks — two of Bank of Maharashtra, one of Bank of Punjab and three of HDFC Bank — have been seized and attached as evidence in the chargesheet.

Shakir Hussain Wani, who allegedly helped Tak conspire and execute the murders, has been absconding.

The police booked both accused under Sections 302 (murder), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
