A team of officials from the Lucknow University and the district administration raided Rama Degree College a private college of BEd and law courses in the Chinhat area on Tuesday. The raid was conducted following complaints that the college was charging fees for BEd course in excess of that fixed by the state government. The LU Registrar,GP Tripathi, and Additional District Magistrate Anil Pathak took part in the raid. It was found that though the state government has fixed Rs 27,536 fee for BEd course, the college authorities were demanding a draft of Rs 50,000 from each student. Tripathi said the college has been asked to refund the excess amount to students. Strict action will be taken if the college ignores the order. More colleges will be raided if similar complaints are received, he added. The LU registrar further said that a few private colleges have already moved court on the issue of BEd fees. A college can charge extra fees only with the High Courts approval. But it has not issued any order yet and matter is sub judice, he added.
