In a turnaround in the builder Rajendra Chaturvedi frame-up case that involved eight suspended police officers, the Andheri magistrate court on Saturday rejected a ‘B’ summary report filed by the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The court has observed the report as ‘unsatisfactory’.
The report filed in February last year stated that the complaint lodged by the police against builder Chaturvedi in 2007 alleging that he had ordered the killing of another builder Rashmikant Shah was ‘wrong and lacks evidence’. The eight suspended police officials include DIG-level IPS officer Bipin Bihari.
Magistrate K D Chowdhary in his order stated, “It is unacceptable that the CID after two years has classified the case as a false one. The CID should verify the facts and investigate the matter again and submit a fresh report. The court will wait for the report.”
With the court order all eight suspended officers including Bihari, senior police inspector Pradeep Shinde and police inspector Jagdish Sahil will have a fair chance of being reinstated in the force.
On February 24, 2007, the Juhu police had arrested four men for allegedly planning to kill builder Shah. The four men had allegedly told the police that they were paid ‘supari’ (contract killing sum) by Chaturvedi to kill Shah.
According to the police, Chaturvedi and Shah were in the fray to redevelop a Rs 500-cr housing project in Mumbai.
