  • For a change, Ajmer has beaten Chennai to the top slot as far as the Class X CBSE results are concerned. While Ajmer recorded a total pass percentage of 93.87 when the results were announced today, Chennai scored 93.47. The national capital retained its fifth position with 77.18 per cent, better only than Guwahati with 56 per cent. About seven lakh students from all over the country appeared for the Class X board exams this year and 84.44 per cent managed to clear it.

Also in a first, two students secured 99 per cent. While Jhanvi from Hyderabad has 99 per cent to her credit, Manish Kumar from Patna bettered the tally with 99.4 per cent.

The biggest surprise was the excellent Mathematics scores. More than five thousand students scored a perfect 100, compared to only 1,167 last year. Social Science was the next high-scoring subject with 1,232 students securing 100 per cent, as compared to 807 last year.

The steep rise in marks is being attributed to the introduction of internal assessment in the two subjects last year.

As per the category of schools, the Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas have done better than the others. Girls have also fared better than the boys though the difference is a marginal 0.48 per cent.

A staggering 28,187 students have secured more than 90 per cent in the country. Students who scored more than 95 per cent also went up to 2,923 from last year’s 1,677.
