Chetak FC edged past Sangam 2-1 in the super division league match of the Peninsula Land Pune Football League being held at the SP College ground on Sunday.
Chetak FC edged past Sangam 2-1 in the super division league match of the Peninsula Land Pune Football League being held at the SP College ground on Sunday. Sangam started the game well and had some good opportunities to take the lead when Rahul Kad hit a couple of fierce shots,both of which went inches over the bar.
Chetak then got back in the game and were passing the ball well in the midfield. They took the lead in the 15th minute through striker Kartik Mandrekar. Mangesh Shinde put Mandrekar through with a defence splitting pass. The striker cut passed the keeper and finished the ball with ease. Chetak took confidence from this goal and took control of the rest of the half. The half ended 1-0. Sangam decided to change things around by bringing on their veteran striker Raju Nikambh. This substitution helped as they started the second half with a lot of confidence. They were applying a lot of pressure on the opposition goal. They were rewarded for their pressure soon after when right winger Wasim Pinjari broke through the Chetak defence cut past two defenders and slotted the ball into the net.
Chetak responded well and applied some pressure of their own. They won a couple of corners but failed to score either one. They took the lead again in the dying minutes of the game after Manavendra Mishra headed in a free kick floated in by Kartik Mandrekar. This goal was a killer blow for the Sangam team as they could not find a way back in the game. Chetak sat back and were successful in defending their one goal lead. Soon after,the referee blew the final whistle and the match ended 2-1.
