Former Congress MLA Chandrakant Chhajjed may soon be rewarded for not revolting and supporting Congress’ official candidate Vinayak Nimhan in the assembly election. The reward could be a chairman's post in the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNDTA).
“I would take any responsibility that the party gives me,” said Chhajed. The two-time MLA was reportedly promised the post after he withdrew from the race. NCP rebel Vilas Lande’s name was also doing the rounds after the Congress tried to rope him in the party.
Chajjed had filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Shivajinagar and Wadgaonsheri assembly constituencies, but later withdrew after Congress and NCP leaders’ appeal.
MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre said, “The chief minister takes the decision regarding such appointments. There is no question of any pressure tactics; the most deserving person will get the job.”
Lande said he was undecided on joining any party.
