In a rebuff to PDP which targeted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the 2006 sex scandal, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Saturday that the investigation into the case has been completed and the lists circulated by the party in J-K Assembly were uncorroborated "pieces".
"CBI has concluded its investigation. These lists are not sacred documents. These are pieces of papers where somebody has written some names," he told reporters in New Delhi.
The statement from Chidambaram comes as a rebuff for PDP whose leaders including its President Mehbooba Mufti and Muzzafar Hussian Beigh have claimed that the CBI was still investigating the sex scandal.
"CBI has told us that they have concluded the investigations. They have filed nine chargesheets altogether naming 17 accused and as of now the CBI is busying itself in prosecuting the accused before the district and sessions judge in Chandigarh," Chidambaram said while presenting his Ministry's report for the month of July.
The allegation of involvement of state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah triggered a political uproar with Omar resigning from his post. However, Governor N N Vohra, after receiving a report from CBI, rejected his resignation.
On the issue of withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from some of the districts in Jammu and Kashmir, the Home Minister said the ministry was looking at possible amendments to the Act "to limit its application".
"We promised to revisit the subject after the elections. At the moment we are looking at the amendments to AFSPA. I cannot disclose the initial amendments because it has to go through the cabinet process," Chidambaram said.
