Chief Minister lays foundation stone for Vikaspuri-Meera Bagh elevated road

An elevated road between Vikaspuri and Meera Bagh in West Delhi will come up as part of a Rs 2,200-crore project aimed at easing traffic flow on various arterial roads in the area.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the 4.3-km road, of which 3.3 km will be an elevated road that zips over five major intersections.
The cost of this project is Rs 559.6 crore.
The construction of the elevated road is part a 17-km signal-free stretch from Vikaspuri in West Delhi to Wazirabad in North Delhi on the Outer Ring Road.
The elevated road will begin before the Anand T-Junction, Manohar Nagar crossing, Keshopur, Subzi Mandi T-Junction and Meera Bagh T-Junction.
It is expected to reduce congestion at Vikaspuri, Janakpuri, Jawalaheri, Paschim Vihar and Bhera Enclave.
The plan also includes a foot overbridge for pedestrians, bus lanes, a cycle track, and a green belt.
"The Delhi government is committed to provide a smooth transport system in the city.
Major roads in the city are choking due to high intensity of traffic and we have been constantly trying to improve the network," Dikshit said, adding that the traffic situation in the city has eased substantially after construction of around 75 flyovers in the last 13 years.
Union Communication Minister Kapil Sibal and PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan were also present on the occasion. Chauhan said PWD will soon take up a number of big road projects to make the Outer Ring Road signal-free.
Chauhan said, "PWD is ready to take up another mega project, at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, to make Outer Ring Road from Meera Bagh to Wazirabad signal-free. The project will involve construction of six flyovers. The flyovers or elevated portions will come up between Meera Bagh and Deepali Chowk, Badli and Mukarba Chowk and three other flyovers will be built between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad. This road will be extended till Noida."
