Argo, Zero Dark Thirty top winners at WGA Awards

Argo and Zero Dark Thirty have been awarded by the Writers Guild of America in the Best Original and Adapted Screenplay categories.

Mark Boal's screenplay won over Flight, Looper, The Master and Moonrise Kingdom.

The Kathryn Bigelow directed movie follows CIA's decade long hunt for Osama bin Laden, the Variety reported.

"It's a unique thing to be honored by your peers," Boal said.

Chris Terrio's adaptation of Argo, again a CIA story about the agency's plot to bring six Americans back home during the hostage crisis in Iran in 1979, took the adapted screenplay trophy.

Terrio said in his acceptance that when he began work on Argo five years ago, he was out of money and had defalted on his student loan.

"I had my specs and Writers Guild card; I can't tell you how that propped me up," Terrio added.

Argo won over Perks of Being a Wallflower, Life of Pi, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook.

Searching for Sugar Man by Malik Bendejelloul won in in

the best documentary screenplay category.

Breaking Bad was adjudged best television drama series

while best comedy series trophy went to Louie.
