Using drama as a medium to provide self-development to children,Ruchira Golwala,training and quality-control manager clarifies that they don’t do theatre per se,but use elements of drama to help develop skills in children which they can employ all through their life. “Self-development is the core. It’s holistic,be it to speak out clearly,relate confidently with peers,improve their confidence,motivate them to use their creative imagination,ask questions,work together as a group,think,be articulate and communicate,’’ smiles Ruchira,here to train a group of young,enthusiastic teachers. “We’re here because we enjoy doing this,and not for work as in work and this feeling translates into our classes,’’ say Richa and Sukriti,both Helen O’Grady trainers.

The programme will encompass 30 lessons in all,adds Rajshree Sarda,who will conduct these classes here in the city and registrations will begin from November 25,the venue depending on the size of the groups. “We hope to have two classes a week,and the USP is the curriculum,which is designed for children from the age of 3 to 18,without a single repetition of a module,’’ Rajshree talks about how different tools of theatre are used in various segments to make the classes simple,fun and involving.

The emphasis is on indirect learning,with one-to-one interaction to enhance self-esteem,thinking powers,encourage listening and conversational skills,promote social skills. “And in a few classes you can see so much of difference in the children. They are more willing to share their emotions,ask questions,think and get so involved,’’ nod Chitwin and Ramit,both trainers,who work closely with children. Motivating children to know they can is what they all work towards. “At the end of these classes,we have a production,which is impromptu,without any memorizing or rote learning.
