  • After extensive discussions on the different threats to internal security at the annual DGPs’ conference, senior police officials will now turn their focus on the threats from across the border.

On Thursday, India’s external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), is slated to make a presentation to the police officers on the possible threats to the country’s security from China and Pakistan, sources said. The officers would be told about the current strength and functioning of the various militant organisations operating out of Pakistan like the Lashkar-e-Toiba and their linkages with terrorist groups worldwide.

Discussions spread over three days so far have been focused on the various challenges being faced by the security establishment, including Left-wing extremism, Islamic fundamentalism and militancy in the northeast. In view of the growing influence of Naxalite groups, the Naxal issue has taken the maximum time of the deliberations, sources said.

On Wednesday, the last day of the DGPs’ conference, the officers were given a detailed presentation on the Crimes and Criminal Tracking Network System that is being developed on a high-priority. Home Minister P Chidambaram, whose brainchild it is, was present during the presentation.

The issue of fake currencies, which has been under the spotlight in recent times, also came up for discussion, sources said. Delhi Police apprised the police officers of the preparations being made for next year’s Commonwealth Games and the cooperation that would be required from all the state governments to make it safe and incident-free.
