Chinese illegally expanding into Russia: Russian agency

FSB says fake Russian driving licenses are used for smuggling timber from Russia into China.

Russia’s Federal Security Service has raised concerns over China’s alleged ‘demographic expansion’ into Russia, with its latest report saying the country was encouraging its citizens to settle in the neighbouring Eurasian giant.

According to a report of the Russian Federalnaya Sluzhba Bezopasnosti (FSB) quoted by Lenta.ru web portal, the Chinese are forging Russian driving licenses ‘en masse’,with the connivance of the authorities of People’s Republic of China.

“Scores of Chinese companies are making forged Russian driving licenses, which can be ordered online. On the basis of its probe the FSB has drawn a conclusion that China is encouraging its citizens to settle in Russia,” the web portal reported.

The FSB is said to have stated that the fake Russian driving licenses are frequently used for smuggling timber from Russia into China.

It warned that Chinese people with fake licenses will have to face punishment under the Russian criminal code for ‘forgery of state documents and awards’.

According to earlier media reports, there were “several million” illegal Chinese immigrants in Russia and no government department was in a position to exactly assess the scale of creeping demographic expansion in the eastern parts of the country.
