His film 'Chitrangada, the Crowning Wish' may not have done well now but filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh predicts that it will be acknowledged as a significant film of
"our times one day in future."
"This film is important, may be it did not do so much
well in theatres after release. But I think Chitrangada will be acknowledged as one of the important movies. May be, it will not occur today itself, but that phase of change (in outlook) has started already," Ghosh, said at the DVD launch of the film here last night.
The multiple national-award-winning director said every
film has its own defining moment and he knew he had to make Chitrangada during a certain phase of his career.
Recalling his personal experiences while making the
film, Rituparno said, "As I watched the film on DVD yesterday it turned out to be another personal experience for me as a viewer. The full cinematography effect of a craftsman like Avik (Mukhopadhyay) on big screen may not be replicated on your DVD, but watching it privately at home will make it a personal trip for every viewer in Chitrangada's territory."
The story revolves around a percussionist Partho (Jisshu
Sen Gupta) who is introduced to Rudra by Kasturi (Raima Sen) as a drummer. Partho and Rudra develop a romantic
relationship, with Rudra embarking on a sex change procedure.
Affirming that he will turn up in any role, bit or
substantial, offered by 'Rituda' his mentor, 'Noukadubi' actor Jisshu Sengupta said, "Chitrangada is an important film in my life where I worked with him both as a director and co-actor."
"I got to see more of Rituda as an actor and learnt
many things from him during making of the film. Chitrangada is an important milestone in the present times," Jisshu, who had also turned up in 'Arekti Premer Galpo' by Kaushik Ganguly which also starred Rituparno as a gay character, said.
