Navsari district health office has declared Sarai village as cholera affected after 66 of its residents were hospitalised with complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea. The neighbouring villages of Dhaman and Padkha have been declared as sensitive.
After being given preliminary treatment at the primary health centre,the 66 affected villagers have been shifted to Navsari Civil Hospital.
District health officials who visited the village found a leakage in the borewell supplying the drinking water,as a result of which it got contaminated by the drainage water. The leakage was repaired.
Health officials have also collected samples of contaminated water and sent these to laboratory for analysis. Tests were also carried out on samples collected from various patients and these turned out to be positive.
Navsari district health officer Dr Rajesh Hariawala said medical teams have been deployed in these villages on round-the-clock duty.
Health officials also held a meeting with Gram Panchayat members and asked them to chlorinate the drinking water and remove garbage dumped in the open and sprinkle lime powder. Villagers have also been asked to boil water before drinking it.
Meanwhile,in Surat,many residents suffering from malaria,gastro and other water-borne diseases have been undergoing treatment in hospitals.
