Chandigarh:Vinod Kapoor starred with the ball (3 for 16) while Rohit Chauhan scored a quick-fire 33 off 22 balls, as CII defeated Quantam Solutions by five wickets in the opening match of the CII- Tata Motors Regional Corporate Cricket Cup at the Panjab University Ground on Sunday. Quantum Solutions batted first and were all out for 132 in 19.2 overs. Hitesh and Suraj scored 33 and 26 runs, respectively. Vinod picked up three wickets while Raman Lamba grabbed two wickets for CII. In reply, the CII team achieved the target for the loss of five wickets in 18.2 overs. Rohit smashed two boundaries and two huge sixes during his blistering knock. Surinder Pal (3) and Saransh (29) also chipped in with the bat. In another match, Barclays Bank defeated Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd by two runs in an exciting encounter. Barclays Bank batted first and were restricted to 183 for 7 in 20 overs. Malkit Singh hammered unbeaten 95 off mere 50 balls, with the help of eight boundaries and six towering sixes. Samrat struck 52 off 44 balls. Chasing the target, Ranbaxy needed 12 off the last two overs with five wickets in hand. However, the Barclay Bank bowlers bowled well and managed to win by two runs. Sumith Sharma scored a brilliant 81 off 45 balls.
Football referee's exam on the anvil
Chandigarh:The Chandigarh Football Association will conduct Football Referee's Examination in the first week of October. The candidates who have interest in football and are of the age of 25 years can appear in the referee's examination. The examination fee for men candidates is Rs. 200 each but no examination fee will be charged from women candidates. The written examination will be on the laws of the game. The successful candidates will have to appear for the physical tests and viva as prescribed by the FIFA / AFC / AIFF. The successful candidates will be named as Probationer Referee (P) and will be registered with both AIFF, New Delhi and CFA. The successful candidtates will have to attend teaching classes and will be monitored for one year.
