With the increasing threat of terrorists using the sea route to carry out attacks against the country, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has sought the Navy’s help to train its men for maritime security duties.
During a recent high-level meeting,”the CISF had put in a request if we can train their personnel for handling the threats emanating from sea and enable them to carry out Maritime operations,” Navy sources told PTI here.
The training, sources said, will start once the Home and Defence Ministries sign an agreement in this regard.
On the need for the CISF to train its men for maritime operations, the sources said,”CISF is in charge of the security of ports but till now it was only looking after cargo entering and leaving the ports. Post 26/11,they want to prepare for tackling threats coming from the sea also.” He said the Navy’s training can help the CISF to raise a quick-reaction team (QRT),which can act in case if any 26/11-type attack takes place along the ports.
“Our men can train CISF personnel for in-shore operations, checking cargo vessels approaching ports and handling and operating sea vessels,” the sources said.
