city anchor: Central Railway starts 16 new services on main line

Three years after 15-car locals were introduced by the Western Railway on the sub-urban section,the Central Railway started 16 new services from October 1 on the main line. With this,total services on the main line increased from 785 to 803.

Three years after 15-car locals were introduced by the Western Railway (WR) on the sub-urban section,the Central Railway (CR) started 16 new services from October 1 on the main line. With this,total services on the main line increased from 785 to 803.

Of the sixteen 15-car services,eight 12-car services will be converted into 15-car services and eight services will be new. The WR had introduced its first 15-car coach local between Dadar midtown terminal and Virar on November 21,2009. This was the first longest EMU service in India. After a year,15-car locals started from Churchgate to Virar.

That time,our priority was to convert all nine-car rakes into 12-car rakes on the CR main line. For the induction of the 15-car train,a lot of work was required and CR did not have sufficient number of rakes. The problem was sorted out and CR is going to start 15-car rakes 15 days after my retirement, said Z A Siddiqui,CRs former Chief Operations Manager,who retired on September 30.

All 15-car services will run as fast locals and will halt at Byculla,Dadar,Kurla,Ghatkopar,Mulund,Thane and Dombivli stations. There will be two new services from Thane to Badlapur and Ambarnath and one new service from Kurla to Titwala.

There will be three fast trains from Kalyan after 9.40 pm and from CST the number of fast trains after 8 pm will increase from eight to 11. With the introduction of sixteen 15-car locals,the total peak hour services will increase from 165 to 170. The total number of fast services will increase from 206 to 233.

Locals leaving Dadar at 10.45 am,5.29 pm

Locals leaving Kalyan at 7.14 am,2.09 pm,4.28 pm,6.24 pm

8 new 15-CAR services

Locals leaving CST at 6 am,3.17 pm,8.10 pm,9.54 pm

Local leaving Kalyan at 9.50 am for Dadar and leaving Kalyan at 11.48 am,8.46 pm,11.05 pm for CST
