What has raised serious security concerns following the discovery of these rocket shells is the fact that Khadak Mangoli is located around 200 metres away from the Army's Western Command headquarters at Chandimandir, just on opposite side of the Kalka road. Also, Panchkula's Sector 1 is also in close proximity of this village.
DCP (Panchkula) Parul Kush Jain says, "A report is awaited on the nature of the explosive. The bomb was diffused at the shooting range near Nada Sahib. We have registered a case and further investigation in the case is on."
The three rocket shells in Khadak Mangoli were found in the field by Ranjit, the nephew of Arjun Singh who owns the fields. Ranjit says, "I found the rocket shells on Monday evening while clearing out water from the field. I then informed my uncle. I then covered the shells with soil so that no child should accidently touch it."
There are scrap dealers some distance from the village and police officials opine that there is a possibility that some scrap dealer left the shells in the field.
Arjun Singh, meanwhile says that three to four years back some shells were found in the area. "When my nephew told me that there were some shells I contacted my son who sent police to the spot. Thereafter the Army also came in. The whole village had descended here to watch the event," he says.
Over the past few months this is the third such recovery. On December 16 last year, bomb shells were found in Daria in Chandigarh that were diffused at Makhan Majra. A case was registered by the police.
Meanwhile, on January 2, bomb shells were found at Colony Number 5 by some children who were playing in the area. A DDR was lodged.
Police officials claim that investigations in these cases are going on. However, till now there has been no breakthrough on how these bomb shells reached the colonies.
