The Delhi Metro is ready to offer its expertise beyond borders,as it starts work on the third phase of expansion within the city.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon be providing management consulting services for the Phase-I of Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit System in Indonesia.
This is the first time that Delhi Metro has been roped in for a project outside the country since its inception in 1997.
DMRC has been awarded the work in a joint venture with eight international companies.
The main responsibilities of DMRC in this joint venture will be finalisation of the organisational structure of the Jakarta Metro,recruitment of personnel,development of training facilities and training of the employees for various categories required for commencing the operations, a DMRC spokesman said.
The first phase of the Jakarta Mass Rapid System will cover 15.7 kilometres.
Other companies that are part of this joint venture are PADECO and Oriental Consultant from Japan,Ernst & Young Advisory Services,Indotech Engineering Jaya,Pamintori Cipta,Lembaga Management FEUI and a public-private partnership between US company Seneca Group and Indonesia.
DMRC had also prepared the Special Assistance on Project Implementation (SAPI) study for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit System. The Delhi Metro is also in the process of bagging similar projects in Bangladesh,Sri Lanka and Israel.
DMRC is also the consultant for all major Metro projects in the country,including in Mumbai,Chennai,Bangalore and Kolkata.
It is also carrying out the construction work of a 9.25 km long Metro corridor in Jaipur,and had recently submitted a feasibility study for construction of Metro in Jalandhar and Chandigarh.
In Delhi,DMRC has started work on Phase-III,which will be the longest Metro corridor in the city at 140 km. The work on Phase-III is expected to be complete by 2016.
The highlight of this phase is the connectivity to Delhis two arterial roads Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.
