Harjot Singh, a class XII Commerce student of Nankana sahib Public senior Secondary School, Gill Road has maintained his success streak by winning the silver medal in the national championship of weight lifting recently held at Rajhara, Durgraj in Chhatisgarh. He has already won gold medal in National school games in the last two years in 105 kg category.
School’s principal Harmeet kaur Waraich congratulated him for his achievement.
He has also qualified for the mini Olympics.
With an aim to win gold medal in Olympics, Harjot is following the footsteps of his father, Hardeep Singh, who has been an international weight lifter and is now running his business.
His mother Sharanjeet Kaur is Asian gold medalist in Hockey and at present is the Head of Department of Physical Education at Government college for Women, Ludhiana.
Mayor's name crops up in plot dispute
Ludhiana:High drama was reported Saturday morning when one Dharamchand, claiming himself to be a supporter of Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura, went to take possession of a 100 sq yard plot in Giaspura area (Mayor's ward). Soon, one Inderjit Saini reached the spot claiming that the land has been donated to his mandir committee by an NRI. Both the parties did not have any pape of the land. Giaspura said he doesn't know Dharamchand. The police have asked the persons to bring their papers for verification.
No relief from powercuts
Ludhiana:Poor power situation in the city continues with powercuts up to 10 hours in the city. Besides during day time, last night PSEB imposed power cuts in night as well.
