In an effort to counter rampant concretisation, the Ghaziabad Development Authority is working on a proposal to create a 100-acre “city jungle”,as well as a “city lake” of the same size within the district. GDA officials said the venture aims to improve the ecological health of the city and to make the venues “exciting adventure spots.”

Santosh Yadav,vice-chairman of the Ghaziabad Development Authority said,“Once the modalities are complete,we will send the proposal to the government. However,at the last meeting with the Chief Minister, the city forest and lake were discussed and the idea got a positive response.”

“The 100 acres for the forest has been identified near the Air Force base in Hindon. The land currently belongs to the Nagar Nigam. For the lake, there is a water body near Hasanpura which is under consideration. For both these spots, experts will will give their suggestions on how to develop the idea further,” officials said.

Officials said the “city jungle” will have a heavy tree cover as well as walking paths and benches. The 100-acre city lake will also be cultivated as a travel destination, officials said. “The lake has even bigger potential as a tourist spot.Restaurants and adventure activities will come up there,”
