If Ranbir Kapoor is the cute heartthrob, Konkona Sen Sharma is the serious, “thinking man’s” actress. Go by the general perceptions of these actors and you will agree that director Ayan Mukherjee could not have brought together a more unlikely pair for his debut film Wake up Sid.
The 29-year-old National Award winner, who plays an ambitious writer Ayesha in the film, feels that love is plausible even when there’s hardly anything in common between the two people involved.
“I don’t know if it works for the entire population but there must be something in the saying ‘Opposites attract’,” she smiles, adding, “I have friends with whom I share little in common but we get along and there’s always something to learn from them.”
Despite being poles apart, Sid is Ayesha’s first friend in the city. “Ayesha has just moved to Mumbai and doesn’t know anyone here. The two become friends and Ayesha’s personality has a great effect on Sid, who begins to take things seriously,” she says, explaining her character.
And Sid’s effect rubs off on Ayesha too. “Of course, Ayesha finally begins to relax and take things a tad easy. But the best part about Ayesha having met Sid is that he helps her discover the city,” she says.
Through the character, says the Bengali actress who was born and raised in Kolkata, she also got a chance to discover Mumbai. “I moved to Mumbai a few years ago because this is where the film industry is. But I hardly get a chance to explore the city.”
