“Lopsided development” in the national capital has spurred Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president JP Aggarwal to take on Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Aggarwal has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy last week, complaining that while infrastructure development in the Chief Minister’s son’s constituency has been going on in full steam, his own Northeast Delhi constituency has been left out in the cold.

This is not the first time a fracas has ensued between a Delhi Congress chief and the Delhi Chief Minister. Former DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma was known to be at loggerheads with the CM till the Congress lost the municipal elections to the BJP by a landslide margin — placing Sheila in the driver’s seat.

In his letter to the Congress president, Aggarwal has complained that while Sandeep Dikshit’s constituency has been the beneficiary of most projects, specifically in terms of road space and bridges —his own constituency has not received any such project. “ISBT to Okhla, which is part of Sandeep Dikshit’s constituency, has a number of bridges with a total of 40 lanes, whereas my area has just one old dilapidated bridge. I have sent a letter to Soniaji and Manmohanji. What kind of planning is this?” said Aggarwal speaking to Newsline.

In his letter, Aggarwal has written: “I would do injustice to the citizens of my parliamentary constituency (comprising of 10 assembly constituencies) if I do not bring to your notice their just aspirations and the lopsided development of civic amenities available to them”.

    ... contd.
